Forinet is expanding into database vulnerability assessment, monitoring and auditing with its recent acquisition and licensing of technology from IPLocks.

Earlier this month Fortinet announced that it had purchased the source code for IPLocks' vulnerability assessment tool as well as assets related to the tool. Fortinet said that it also licensed IPLocks' database monitoring and auditing tools.

IPLocks' solutions run on Windows 2003 Server, RedHat Enterprise Linux, Solaris, and AIX, and can protect a variety of database platforms including Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2 UDB, and Sybase. In addition to vulnerability assessment, the solutions provide realtime protection as well as auditing and help with industry compliance standards such as Payment Card Industry Data Security (PCI DSS) and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX).

IPLocks was recently recognized for its technological achievements when late last year the company became one of the winners of Red Herring's Global 100 Award, which was given to the top 100 private technology companies in a field of over 1800 contestants.

The terms of the deal between Fortinet and IPLocks were not disclosed.
